Greetings to all of you members of the 1982 Dartmouth "Class of the Year"! This designation was awarded at the final session of the Class Officers' Weekend early in May. We (officers and wives) were sitting there after lunch in Thompson Arena as awards were announced. Suddenly, as a complete surprise, president Len Bryant was called forth to receive the treasured gavel, emblematic of this prestigious recognition. This, the first time in history, that a class has been so honored for the second time! A great thrill for all of us, especially added to the earlier award to Reg Bankart and Dero Saunders as "Newsletter Editors of the Year.

We were one of the few classes, if not the only one, to be represented by all officers, and Treasurer Put Kingsbury" and your secretary were on hand for all sessions. Bequest Chairmen Al Brush and John Wallace were there, and also our hardest, I think, workers of all Head Agent A 1 Dodd and Participation Chairman Bob Naramore.

Bob Hage and Henrietta, just back from a delightful three weeks in France and Belgium, were able to join in the associated meetings. A final pleasure of the weekend before breaking up was a cocktail party at the new home (to them) of Howie and Mary Croninger in Hanover Center. This weekend was a rewarding experience both inspirationally and socially for all of us who represent you so proudly. I think it only correct and appropriate to say on behalf of all of us, thanks for electing us!

Fall reunion plans, as you should know, are in the works for the weekend of October 1 and 2. Classmates George Colton and Muriel Hall will have things well in hand, assuming you've sent back the reservation forms you've received.

George, incidentally (but by no means accidentally), has just been reelected to a four-year term as vice cfiair of the Skidmore board of trustees. Our gain is their gain!

Already it's time, at once, to make your arrangements for our class get-together at the William and Mary game in Williamsburg on October 9. Rooms specifically for the class of 1935 have been reserved at the Holiday Inn West by a committee consisting of Ed Neff, Hugh Wolff, and Frank Specht. Details were in the "Tear Bag."

Also, at once, ic's time to show that you really did pay attention to Dodd and Naramore. The Alumni Fund has but a few days to go for 1982. Please do if you didn't yet!

And speaking of A 1 Dodd, he and Marianne must be proud that their grandson John Donahoe graduates from Dartmouth this year. Evidently the talent for finance is hereditary, for John is treasurer of the class of 1982!

A recent issue of the Wall Street Journal carried the news that Jesse Wolff has been appointed non-executive deputy chairman of Sotheby Parke Bernet Group PLC. Jay is senior partner of Weil Gotschal & Manges, the company's U.S. lawyers.

In April, Polly and I were privileged to attend the second Frederick Sessions Beebe Lecture in Dartmouth Hall. Also present and at the dinner preceding it were George Colton and Bill Fitzhugh. The Beebe family and some of Fritz's former associates and friends have created a fund to establish a program of lectures, internships, and symposia to focus on the art and skill of writing. Dartmouth seeks to endow a professorship of writing in the name of this distinguished classmate and journalist whose untimely death came in 1973.

Here's a late good-news flash: Hall Colton, retired class treasurer and former Alumni Councilor, was married to Jeanne Merksamer on May 15 in Nashua, N.H. Our congratulations to the newlyweds!

Thanks for listening to my last opportunity to communicate with you until the October issue. By then I trust you'll have sent me countless cards just running over with news of the members of our great "Class of the Year"!

As co-editors of "The Tear Bag, the partnership of "Uncle Reg and Your Big Green Eyeshade Man was honored for with dependable regularity producing a newsy, lively, readable publication . . . without any sign of editorial burn-out or jaded readership.

The class of 1935 was honored, with 'BO, as the 1982 "Class of the Year" during Class Officers' Weekend in May.
