Alumni Fund results
September 1986

The 1986 Dartmouth Alumni Fund, with a dollar total of $11,021,046 and alumni par- ticipation of 64.5 percent, finished below the goals that had been set for it and for the first time in many years fell behind the fig- ures of the previous campaign. The dollar goal for the 1986 Fund was $11.75 million and 67 percent participation. Last year's re- sults were $11,378 million and 66.5 percent participation.

"The adverse publicity Dartmouth re- ceived during the year didn't help us at all," said Alumni Fund director Henry Eberhardt '6l, but he added that considering the effect alumni discontent could have had on the Fund, "the results are something we feel really good about."

Among the bright features of the 1986 campaign, a 50th-reunion record of $1,056,000 was set by the class of 1936, and the 25-year class of 1961 became the tenth million-dollar class by giving $1,001,961 with a record 87 percent participation. Cor- porate matching gifts rose from $1,595 mil- lion to $1.7 million, Parents Fund giving increased from $528,000 to $552,000, and the class of 1953 led all nonreunion classes in the country by giving $251,000 with 83 percent participation.

r r A While the Alumni Fund did not come up to expectations, the College enjoyed offset- ting good news in the spectacular growth in bequests and trusts for 1985-86. The rec- ord total of $13.1 million is far ahead of the previous mark of $9.85 million established in 1980.
