Seven years and change after venturing to Dartmouth sight-unseen, thick in Southern accent and patently clueless, I am returning home. If the Good Lord's willing and if the creek don't rise, I'll be traveling somewhere when you read this, killing time while awaiting word from the law schools to which I've applied for this fall. Yes, Virginia, I've sold out at last.
I know what you're saying, caring readers: How does this affect me? For one thing, you can no longer FAX news to me. For another, note the new address below, where you should write until further notice.
But enough about me. Back to the mailbag where Scott Sabol checks in with these items: • Ed Landers was married in May to Lynne Buder (Mt. Holyoke '88, Thayer '89), a woman he'd dated since his sophomore year. The wedding was held in Wakefield, Mass., with '88s Justin Hlavin Mark Kelsey and Scott as ushers. Also on hand were Rich Howe and Nate Denny, and Steve Nichols was sighted during the weekend. While Ed was the first of this crew to wed, Hlavin will take the plunge with a longtime sweetheart in April, according to Scott.
• Steve Nichols now works at the National Research Council in Washington, D.C.
• Karen (Redding) Morton gave birth to a baby girl in January, and Scott says, "I think her name is Lydia." Karen and husband Craig Morton '89 traveled a great deal last year as Craig played for the Frankfurt, Germany, team in the World League of American Football.
• Andy Wilson has left LEK Partnership in Los Angeles and is now attending Harvard Business School.
Next up is a letter from Carol Ling '90, who wrote as a "gift" to her friends in our class. Much appreciated, Carol. Here goes:
• Bob Lantz is working at Apple Computer in Cupertino, Calif.; when not working on projects, Bob is finishing his master's in computer science at Stanford.
• Joon Hong has graduated from Stanford Law, passed the New York State bar exam, and is now working in the Bronx as a public defender after hiking Yellowstone last summer.
• Susan Urben completed her third year of med school at Cal San Francisco and rewarded herself with a trip to Australia. Suzy's next move is to Alaska, "where USA "Today says the most eligible men in the world live," Carol said.
• Dean Dietrich finished his third year of graduate studies in English at the U of Virginia and, after teaching freshman English, decided he needed time off. He'll be back at the lectern next fall, Carol said.
A couple of press releases have also landed here, one of which announced that Laura(Busfield) Kregenow made her theatrical directing debut with tire Penn Law School Light Opera Company's production of Pippin last year. Laura warmed up with bit parts, then a lead role in earlier stints with the company. According to the release, Laura is now working in environmental law.
The other press release announced the hiring of John Micheletto to three positions at The Hill School in Pottstown, Penn. John will coach the varsity hockey team, teach English, and serve as assistant director of development and alumni affairs. John, you may recall, took two years off after our sophomore year to play professional hockey, first in the Netherlands, then with a couple of the Chicago Blackhawks' minor league teams. He graduated in 1990, but he's still one of us.
Next month, news from Melinda Harrington, Diane DePriest , and RickCollari. Don't forget the new address.
