The annual dinner of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Boston was held on Wednesday, January 21, 1959 at the StatlerHilton Hotel, Boston, Mass. There were present approximately five hundred parents, wives or consorts. The addition of ladies was an innovation for the Boston dinner and the consensus was that the change was highly desirable.
The meeting was presided over by E. Morton Jennings '28, President of the Association and also president of the College's Alumni Clubs Association. Preceding the dinner was the "Wheelock Tavern" which was its customary success. Speaker of the occasion was General Robert Cutler, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Old Colony Trust and until recently special assistant to President Eisenhower for National Security affairs. General Cutler's theme was the necessity of giving serious thought to the development of regional two-year post high school educational facilities in order to absorb the great population increase of the nation. The theme was ably stated and gave serious food for thought to all present. In addition to General Cutler, retiring Dean Joseph McDonald brought the meeting up to date on the recent trials and tribulations of the Dean. We also had the pleasure of seeing for the first time Thaddeus Seymour, Dean-Elect of the College. He spoke briefly, but in that time impressed all with his competence to assume the office to which he has been elected. Head Football Coach Bob Blackman and Scott Palmer '59 jointly represented the 1958 football team; the latter also spoke on certain thoughts occurring to him as an undergraduate of the College.
Officers elected for the ensuing year are:
William C. Cusack '27, President; John K. Benson '31, Wilbur W. Bullen '22 and John B. Kenerson '28, Vice-Presidents; Richard D. Leggat '48, Secretary; and Richard D. Hill '41, Treasurer.
