As skeptical nonagenarians, Twoters generally cringe at adulation, but occasionally we do relish a few kind words. So, naturally, we cherish the following excerpt from the annual Class of 1922 Scholarship report by the Director of Stewardship, Melanie N. Norten, to Class Treasurer Carroll Dwight: "Please know that all of us at the College are deeply grateful for the support that you and your classmates have provided over the years, both financially and through volunteer services, for the benefit of our students. You do make a difference in the quality of the experience that these students have during their four years at Dartmouth."
In return, we merely hope these modern students learn to love Dartmouth as fervently as we antiquarian alumni do.
Hanoverians were delighted by Dartmouth's stupendous athletic success last autumn: Ivy football championship shared with Cornell; the soccer team leading the Ivy League and placing eighth in the U.S., and outright championship in cross-country for the seventh consecutive year. Impacted by no "-isms" other than self-discipline, intense effort, team work, and great desire to win, these achievements have their own eloquence.
The football season had special significance for Warren and Jeanne Daniell. Homecoming (Dartmouth 27-Yale 17) brought the family together. Warren Jr. '48, Sam '52, and local Professor J ere '54, with their wives, joined Warren and Jeanne for numerous festivities. The men even played golf together. Scores were a family secret, but all players were pleased to be in the same family.
Sadly, Charles Earle and Harold Fraser have left us. Obituaries are being written.
