Dateline: New York '85 SECRETARY DELUGED WITH MATERIAL GOES INTO SHOCK! Count 'em four letters this month from Classmates Who Cared. Letter One: Carol Jo Miner admits she "lost touch" with the Dartmouth crowd (especially since she couldn't attend Reunion), but wrote after noting we work for the same company. (That's six '85s at Booz now... hey, mini-reunion!) She also reports her June engagement to Bruce Snyder. Congrats, Carol!
Letter Two: a clipping from HenriettaHung, but not about Henrietta herself. Rather, she sent a New York Times ad featuring a smiling Jeffrey Howe, "Assisstant VP at Manufacturer's Hanover." What was Jeff selling? The Columbia Summer M.B.A. program, of course. Good catch, Hen.
Letter three: a snippet.from Bill Scherman '34 (You may remember him from Freshman Parents Weekend, hanging around with TimScherman). Tim got hitched December 1 to Pam Davidson (a recent graduate of John Marshall Law in Chicago). Rich Stoddardtand Keith Goggin were also allegedly involved. Tim is finishing his dissertation for a Ph.D. in English literature. Nice assist, Dad.
Big Letter Four: A Bonanza from KathyReilly Gross. "Wait a minute," you say, "I knew a Kathy Reilly at Dartmouth . . . and a Mark Gross, but not.. . hey. . . did they get married?" Nothing gets by you, dear reader. As of September 9, Mark and Kathy have been bonded together in Holy Matrimony. Kathy works for her family's platform tennis court business, while Mark specializes in corporate reorganization at Skadden Arps ("bankruptcy" to you and me). As we say in the business, they have a well-hedged portfolio of career interests: when the market's up and Mark isn't busy, people install lots of new tennis courts, keeping Kathy employed. And when recession hits and no one's buying Kathy's courts, Mark kicks into gear. Very practical, you two.
Attending the Reilly-Gross affair was a plethora of '85s: Billy Budd and wife Nancy, who have two kids, Christian and Billy Budd Jr.; Chris Weber (lately of U. Penn. engineering) and wife Maria; Charlotte Hart (we spoke of her recently—remember the rats in her NYC apartment?); Eleni Daskalakis, a Harvard Business School grad at Morgan Stanley engaged to colleague Peter Sokel; Becky Blake, a Bostonian working with foreign exchange students; Marcy Sitnik Reed, C.P.A. for a Boston area utility company; JillOwens, a Harvard Law grad clerking in a Trenton, N.J., district (which, through some cartographic anomaly, also includes jurisdiction over the Virgin Islands . . . psych!); and David Hallagan, getting a Wharton M.B.A.
Wharton .. .hey, wait a second I have their resume book right here on my desk. I turn to the H's: there's Hallagan! Let's see ... David got a Thayer degree before Wharton. I wonder if there are other '85s in here? Here's one! David Coco spent two years at the Nitze School of Advanced International Affairs at Johns Hopkins before Wharton. I keep looking.. .Jonathan Kelly, consultant at Data Resources then assisstant vice president at Paribas Asset Management impressive. Next comes Mark Neibart. First Boston and Morgan Stanley kept him busy until B-school. Turn the page, and it's Pamela Ponce, getting a joint degree with The Lauder School of International Studies after working at Pepsi Co.
Hey, this resume book eavesdropping is fun! And look, I've got about ten more of these from different schools—a veritable treasure trove! So here's the deal: keep sending scintillating letters, or its more B-school resumes for you. The Choice Is Yours. Mark's up next in April, so see you in May with Tuck, Sloan, HBS, at al.
