More than 40 folks with '57 connections got in some pre-season reunion practice during Homecoming Weekend. Item: scuttlebutt has it that our own Dave Orr can take personal credit for that excellent new tradition, the parade from Memorial Field to the Dartmouth Hall lawn for the Dartmouth Night festivities.

As usual, the annual class meeting on Saturday morning was fueled by doughnut holes, Bloody Marys, and other nutritious breakfast foods. President Jack Hall saw that formal business was handled with customary style and efficiency. Then discussion shifted to such topics as the state of the College; we'd probably still be there if lunch hadn't intervened. The weather was amazingly warm and sunny, and of course the football team provided us with a great day.

Joe and Jane Stevenson invited everyone to cocktails at their home before dinner at the Norwich Inn. In addition to those noted above, the weekend group included Clark and Happy Griffiths, Charlie and Susan White, Staff and Elizabeth Krause, Wayne and Cindy Andrus, Sam and JoAnn Robb and son David, Randy Aires and daughter Katherine, Tom Schwarz, Brian Coyne, Rod and Carol DuBois, Howland Keller and Wendie Howland (there's a story in those names), Dave and Ellie Cook, Harry and Marlene Russell, Bob Macdonald, Jim and Carole Taylor, Bob and Helen Vogel, Bob Burton and daughter Jennifer, Bob and Tommi Adelizzi and son Jim, Dick and Sue Burch, Adam and Gittan Block.

A year ago, Bob and Helen Vogel's youngest two kids were well established in college: Andrew a '93 at Dartmouth and Deborah a '94 at Yale. Now both are at Dartmouth. What do you think about that?

Bob Macdonald told me that this year's Princeton game was the first time since 1927 that Dartmouth played its final football game of the season in Hanover. Dick Leavitt and his son flew in from Los Angeles to witness this memorable event. That night, Dartmouth won its first hockey game of the season against RPI, and Bob called it "a thriller." Dave Canfield came up from Ridgefield, Conn., with daughter Kim to view the action.

As of mid-December, Mike Tompkins and Dick Canton say 45 classmates have already advised they are definitely planning to be at reunion, and 50 more say they may come. That's extremely encouraging so early in the process. The green cards help a lot, but if you've misplaced yours call Mike at 508/7935821 or Dick at 617/439-8488. They'll also be glad for any help in getting your old roommate to show up.

The reunion program will include a seminar by Bill Edgerton on how to understand and enjoy fine wines, complete with a tasting of eight selections. Bill is the publisher of Wine Price File, an indispensable periodical for keeping informed on current prices of 60,000 fine and rare wines. Jay Greene will also bring us up to date on his personal experiences growing grapes and making wine in his Saint Helena, Cal., vineyard. Talk about learning and drinking at the same time...
