APRIL 1994 George Thompson,

Picture this. A young man graduates from one of the nation's most prestigious prep schools and matriculates at Dartmouth in the fall of 1978. After four years of hard work and academic accomplishment, a couple of years of work as an investment banker, and two more years of school at Harvard Business School, he throws it all into the wind by going to work for a drop-out from Harvard. Nevertheless, Greg Maffei has excelled and was recently named general manager of treasury and corporate investments at Bill Gates's Microsoft Corporation.

Wendi Terlizzi Cook writes from Portugal that Bob Bauer and his wife, Sally, have a bouncing one-year-old named Benjamin and live in Boston. She also reports that Rick Bercuvitz is living in Vermont, finishing his master's in Judaic theology, and contemplating rabbinical school in the fall. Wendi also asked for "any news on Marrin Robinson or Laurie Walters."

From the cold-call department: Lisa Harrison Kender, who is still rationalizing her parents' naming her Luccretia, is the vice president of the Private Banking Group at Citibank in New York. Her husband, Michael, works with Laura Murray Dobbins's husband at Smith, Barney. Lisa tells me that Laura is expecting her first child any day. Lisa also reports that Kate McKee and Ken Fox are married, have two boys, Gregg and Jeff, and live in St. Louis. Ken is working at a local prep school, and Kate is working as a fulltime mother and domestic goddess. Lisa also informs me that Martha Solis is married, living in Denver, working for U.S. Trust, and has a little boy named Wesley. One final note from Lisa, who is our matching-gifts coordinator: please make the effort to ascertain from your employer whether it will match your alumni pledge to Dartmouth. It takes little effort but provides great benefits to the College.

Kim Caldwell Harrington and husband James '75 live in Omaha, Neb. Kim is a senior counsel for Mutual of Omaha specializing in employee benefits. Her husband has answered to a higher calling and teaches math at a public high school. They have three children: Beth 7, and twins Mike and Matt 4-1/2.

Please contact Philippa or me with the latest news regarding our classmates. In my next column I will address the question gripping the alumni network. Is Tonya Harding an honorary Theta Delt?
