During the 1960s the chief groundskeeper for Dartmouth sports, Bill Heeremans '29, invented "Bill's Batting Cage," a lightweight, collapsible baseball backstop that could be moved and stored with ease. The cage is now standard equipment throughout the major leagues and the rest of baseball.
