One more bit of Reunion business: as always, a class meeting was held to elect new officers for the next five years. It looks like a good team to me, with some new blood and some non-Northeasterners thrown in to mix things up a bit. And the winners (?) are: president, Tony FitzPatrick; vice president, Pete Webster; head agent, JohnShapleigh; bequest giving chair, Jeff McElnea; newsletter editor, Steve Zrike; treasurer, George Rountree; secretary, Don O'Neill (again?); class projects chair, Tim Dreisbach; mini-reunion chair, Dick Wooster.
And now, back to the mail-bag (which these days is mostly electronic—keep those e-mails coming!): Mai Graham wrote: "I am still practicing corporate and securities law with the Jacksonville law firm I cofounded 11 years ago, which has grown to 20-plus lawyers. I haven't seen any classmates since the February 1995 Dartmouth lawyers ski trip to Jackson Hole. Unfortunately, I missed this year's at Big Sky. This spring, for the first time, I am coaching a Little League team, my nine-year old daughter Emily's Softball team, the Angels."
David Aylward and wife Cary "continue to run our public policy/business consulting firm, National Strategies. We will celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary this summer. Smartest move I ever made. Fun current projects include organizing a business-led campaign to assist teachers and communities in integrating computer and communications technology, fighting the television broadcasters' grab for a free doubling of their spectrum, and starting a radio communications company in Atlanta. Just attended a delightful dinner here of more than 20 classmates (pre-Reunion Ed.), organized by Garrett Rasmussen and Gene Elrod."
Robin Armstrong is "still living in Ottawa—capital of Canada and Silicon Valley North. I am a research manager for the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. The sap is nicely started flowing in area sugar bushes and Marcia, my wife, and our children Allison, Christine, and John are looking forward to spring weather (this having been written in March—Ed.). Ray and Carol Dudley wrote: "Next project to cast will be TheReturn of the Jackal for Showtime...no, he didn't die...and, no, he doesn't come back in a dream shower sequence...It is cold, wet, and dreary in London but all the crocii are out and sun is predicted within the week. Hope springs eternal."
A few more sightings from the Reunion: Buck Allen (an old Colorado friend), continues on as the judge of Vail. We had an interesting chat about how development in the Vail valley is pushing out the "natives." When not doffing his robes for a little mid-week skiing, Buck officiates at innumerable weddings and funerals and works with police departments exploring ways to curb teen drinking. Gary Cook, a fellow Tabardite whom I hadn't seen since graduation, arrived on Saturday, recording the events with his ever-clicking camera. And Ron Olsen, whom I'd last seen when he was working behind the front desk of the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, circa 1975, was there with his lovely wife, Masami, and their two sons.
Finally, my recollections of Saturday night begin with our student workers patiently struggling to teach Jerry O'Brien the Macarena, and, the evening having built to a fever-pitch (pre-Travolta style), close with Charlie Collier on the dance floor, hands and chin thrusting toward the sky to the tune of "Shout! (everybody) Shout! (etc.)" Well, I guess you had to have been there...
