ON THE TRADITIONAL SOIL of the Abenaki people, Michael Hanitchak '73 guides Native students from more than 45 tribes in the ongoing act of creating community. As director of the Native- American Program, Hanitchak leads the support network that has helped Native Americans graduate from Dartmouth at ten times the national rate for Native students. "We provide support for students in an alien atmosphere so they can be successful in their own terms," he says. Standing firm, he binds both College and students to that success.
