We are writing in August, but grateful missives on the Reunion keep pouring in. Mary Jo and Bob Mac Donald had thoughtfully sent to the class reprints of the memorial service paper with copies of Bob James's prayer and your correspondent's reminiscences, and the appreciation expressed by the recipients has been impressive. We have seen several dozen communications and hereby express our thanks to those who thought our remarks satisfactory. The letters came from all oven from Henderika Smart in Groningen, Holland: Archie Lade in Denver; Jo (Stafford) Weston in Bel Air; and Harvey Bloomberg in Swampscott, among others. They all spoke gratefully of the fantastic job our Merry Macs did in planning and managing the get-together. Space limits prevent our listing everyone who wrote, but to all, MUCHAS GRACIAS!
We should note that in her letter of thanks Marge (Worthington) Davis reported that the Maryland Dartmouth Club had set up a scholarship in Page's memory. Bravo and well-deserved!
As a welcome addition to the news of 65th-year achievements, Fuller Ripley, our dedicated class agent, has informed us that in the closing days of the campaign several '33 heavy hitters came through nobly with the result that the final figure for our Reunion Year Alumni Fund campaign reached Si 18,037, or 54,037 more than our objective. Bully for you, Rip! And thanks to the generous donors.
The Dartmouth College 1997 annual report shows budget spending of $309 million, an endowment of $1.278 billion, and annual costs of: $23,910, tuition and fees; $6,912, room and board; student scholarships, $38 million. Long way from 1933!
