Saturday morning after Dartmouth Night we gathered at the Shaker Inn, Enfield, New Hampshire, for a bell-ringing, tub-thumping class meeting. There were '62s from all over: California, Texas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and the usual "new" states (New Jersey, New York, New England.). Class officers reported crisply and with flair. Our ladies shopped, also with flair. It was an energetic and businesslike gathering with lots of laughs thrown in. As we headed to Memorial Field, it seemed like nothing could go wrong at Dartmouth this Homecoming Weekend. Dartmouth won the toss and then it went straight downhill. Some worried for Gordy McKean's well-being as our passes were intercepted and our line crumpled. The wind-chill must have been -57 and the body and brain became numb. I fished around in my parka, found the football ticket and read from the back: "The use of alcohol and drugs is strictly prohibited on Dartmouth College premises. Spectators are encouraged to remain alert during athletic contests as Dartmouth College is not responsible for injuries." Despite the disastrous football game and this obscure and disingenuous gobbledygook, the weekend was a fantastic success.

David L. Smith came from Houston just two months out from a horrific two-month hospitalization for complications following ulcer surgery. Fortunately, he is on the mend. He observed that classmates who might never have attended these reunions should give it a try. "People pick up from 38 years ago without missing a beat. We make new friends and re- new with old." True. Manning Smith and Ginny- two terrific folks I swear I have never met in my life—are a delight. We met them as a large gang of '62s grouped up Friday night for the parade and afterward at the Faculty Lounge at the Hopkins Center.

Woody Chittick and his wife, JoAnne, from Cohasset, Massachusetts, were there. Woody has recently retired as CEO of Ocean Spray. I asked about retirement and he said that so far the new routine is good. (JoAnne reports that she is hanging in.) Jerry Phifer and Kirsten were a great addition to the group. He urged your class secretary to jazz up the column a bit: "What about reporting on scandal, X-rated movies and administration shenanigans, Richard?" (We're working on it Jerry.) New acquaintances included Robbi Cox and Meredith from West Chester, Pennsylvania. Bob Sameth and Sue joined us from New Jersey. Bill Stern and Debi are living in Del Mar, California, now. They targeted Homecoming Weekend as the centerpiece of their trip East, which included a "New York fix."

Bob Brodkey wrote awhile ago from Washington, D.C. Bob continues to work for FEMA. He recalled the days of our freshman year when we shared a suite on the third floor of Brown Hall. Another cluster buster back then was Allan Weeks, who has recently relocated from Hartford to Boston this summer to work for the law firm of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C. Allan specializes in computer law transactions and intellectual property matters.
