The 1997 valedictorian Lago Lowe '97 traveled abroad for nearly two years before finding a mission for himself in the impoverished countryside of East Africa. There Lowe recorded 35 indigenous choirs singing hymns and native music. Sales of the resulting CD set— Sasana Milele ("Now and Forever," the last line of "The Lord's Prayer," in Swahili)—will help fund Reaching Lazarus, a humanitarian non-profit organization Lowe founded to aid community-initiated projects in developing countries. The CD project has raised $25,000, about half of what Lowe is hoping to gather for a computer classroom in a secondary school in Tanzania. Lowe has turned to alums for assistance. Andrew Ferrone '98 is installing the computer network and training students and staff at the school, while Hans Kieserman '97 maintains Reaching Lazarus's Web site (www.reachinglazarus.org). Back in Hanover pursuing a master's in physics, Lowe is developing the organization's next project: a program to help youth lead community development projects.
