"Sexy, single and sizzling" is how People Weekly magazine introduced novelist David Friedman '92 (writing under the pen name David Benioff) in its July 2 issue on "America's Top 50 Bachelors." But he is doing more than looking good: Friedman's debut novel about a convict's last day of freedom, The25th Hour (Caroll & Graf), has positive reviews and is about to get the big-screen treatment, with Tobey Maguire starring as the convict. The success is wellearned; before entering the graduate writing program at UC Irvine and hitting the publishing jackpot, Friedman worked as a nightclub bouncer, high school teacher and a radio deejay on the graveyard shift in Moose, Wyoming. Also sizzling, according to People: ski instructor Sam von Trapp '94, who spends his winters in Colorado, heads to Brazil and Chile for the summer, and resides at his parents' Stowe, Vermont, Trapp Family Lodge in between.
