The American Academy of Pediatrics has given its Clifford Grulee Award and Job Lewis Smith Award to pediatrician Calvin Sia '50 in recognition of his efforts to support children's health in Hawaii.

Pathologist Paul Raslavicius '57, DMS'58, is the new president of the College of American Pathologists. He is also a Tufts University professor and consultant to the national Pathology Center in Lithuania.

Bates College Dean of the Faculty JillReich, Adv'76, has been elected by her peers as an American Psychological Association (APA) Fellow.

Four alumni recently met with President George W. Bush. Carol Muller '77 and her non-profit Mentor Net, an e-mail and Internet network that links female engineering and science students with professionals in these fields, received a 2001 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring. Bush also appointed Marye Anne Fox, Adv'74, chancellor of North Carolina State University, to the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology; John Hammer schmidt '71 to his third term on the National Transportation Safety Board; and Francis Ricciardone Jr. '73 as the ambassador to the Philippines and Palau. U.S. Navy Commander Charles"Chip" Swicker '77 took command of the Aegis destroyer John S.McCain.

Jevin Eagle '88, former partner with consulting firm McKinsey & Co., has been named the senior vice president of strategy of international office supplier Staples.

Timothy O'Hair '88 made the Hollywood Reporter's annual list of 35 promising executives. The vice president for production for Universal Pictures, O'Hair has worked on The Family Man and Bridget Jones's Diary.

Nina Kemppel '92 became the first American woman named to four U.S. Olympic cross-county ski squads when she won the U.S. Ski Team Gold Cup in December.
