After seven years as dean ofthe College, James Larimore hasmoved on to a similar post atSwarthmore College in Pennsylvania, citing a desire to travel less and spend more time with his family. Swarthmore's smaller student body and two-semester schedule were reportedly factors in his decision. Dan Nelson '75, senior associate dean of the College, has been named acting dean.'

The Dartmouth Campaign is more thanhalfway to its fundraising goal. As of May 19, $720 million—or 55 percent of the goal—had been committed. Donor generosity will translate into the dedication of II named buildings this year, some of them actually part of one structure. The McLaughlin Cluster, for example, will have six named halls in two structures. Funding has also been received for seven new endowed professorships and four distinguished professorships.

Compensation for its assistant professorsranks Dartmouth last in the IvyLeague but—at 58th—among the top20 percent of schools nationally. According to a survey conducted by the American Association of Professors, the College is in the top 20 for compensation to both full professors (19th) and associate professors (15th).

Dartmouth's women's lacrosse teammade its first-ever appearance in anNCAA championship game May 28, facing 2005 champion Northwestern in front of a record crowd of 5,684 in Boston. After leading 3-2 at the half, the team lost, 7-4.

Write-in candidate Tim Andreadis '07 ofCheshire, Connecticut, won election asStudent Assembly president by a margin of more than 350 votes after two years in which the election was determined by fewer than 30 votes.

In April the Council for the Advancementand Support of Education awarded DAMtwo medals in its annual Circle of Excellenceprogram. The magazine earned a silver medal in the category of College and University General Interest Magazines. In the Special Issues category DAM won a gold medal for the March/April 2005 special issue about sports at Dartmouth.
