The U.S. hockey team—with five alums on the roster—plays Switzerland at the St. Moritz Games in 1948. Rare circumstances had led to another U.S. squad—with three other alums—vying to be the nation’s official representative at the Games. The controversial decision came at the last minute, and the Olympic team finished fourth. “If we’d had all the Dartmouth people together we would have won,” says Ralph A. Warburton ’47, a member of the team.
