Organizations that violate the policy will be fined; freshmen violators will not be allowed to rush Greek houses during their sophomore year.

Under Review

>>> dartmouth has joined harvard and Princeton as subjects of Title IX investigations by the U.S. Department of Education. A spokesman for the office of civil rights said the probe will look into sexual harassment grievance procedures, the handling of sexual harassment claims and the designation of a Title IX coordinator. The College is cooperating with the investigation, which reportedly could take many months. A recent inquiry at Yale lasted 15 months.

Tucker Head Unhired

>>> in august president phil hanlon ’77 rescinded the College’s job offer to the Right Rev. James Tengatenga, diocesan bishop of Southern Malawi, to head the Tucker Foundation. Immediately following the announcement of his appointment in July, Tengatenga drew fire for comments he’d made that agreed with the Anglican Church’s anti-homosexuality views. After several weeks of backpedaling, the bishop got the news from hanlon, who indicated the College’s support for gay rights is unequivocal. In September Tengatenga reportedly accepted a scholarship at the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
