The wheels on the bus will not go round and round this summer. A variety of factors have combined to thwart plans for a 10th season on the road for the Big Green Bus, Dartmouth’s iconic symbol of sustainability. First, the biodiesel-fueled, student-driven bus broke down last summer and still isn’t road-worthy. a new bus, which would then have to be retrofitted, has yet to be found. Second, not enough bus veterans and upperclassmen have signed up for the program, leaving the remaining freshmen with a lack of direction and leader- ship. Those missing elements will be critical to any future for the once popular program.
