Heart and Soul

Yet another reason to love Dartmouth: language professor John Rassias. The Great One, who made an indelible impression on nearly everyone he met or taught fo 50 years at the College, died December 2, 2015, at age 90. He truly loved his profession, uttering these memorable words during an appearance with Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show in 1980: “Teaching is like making love. The more you go at it with all your senses ablaze, the deeper the pleasure, the more lasting the impression and the more willing and able one is to renew the act.”
