OVERDUE

According to Federal Election Commission documents, Hillary Clinton's campaign has an outstanding debt to Dartmouth of $1,815, most likely incurred during her visit to the Bema last year.

A PERSISTENT PROBLEM

The Dartmouth reported that faculty diversity “lags far behind that of the undergraduate student body” and that the College has the “lowest minority faculty representation in the Ivy League at 14.7 percent.”

HORSE SENSE?

Kappa Delta Epsilon sorority changed its annual Derby party, celebrated during the Kentucky horse race weekend, to a Woodstockthemed party. At last year’s party a group of students loudly demonstrated against police brutality toward people of color.

A DIFFERENT DERBY

Several grad students and a faculty member are participating in a flat track roller derby league, Twin State Derby. “Flow many people get to say they have physically knocked down, with no consequences, a member of their dissertation committee?” says Ph.D. candidate Beth Reinke of the Upper Valley Vixens.

CAN’T WE ALL GET ALONG?

College Republicans’ Collis Center display for National Police Week titled “Blue Lives Matter” incited a protest as students replaced it with “Black Lives Matter” posters on May 13. President Flanlon declared the activism “an unacceptable violation of freedom of expression,” and the original display was restored.

SIGNATURE REQUEST

Five student leaders are circulating a petition that calls for the board of trustees and administrators to “engage in some painful soul-searching,” enact more “fiscal discipline” and “depart from the realm of student life.”

HEAVY LIFTING

Just months after its founding by Tony Choi '16, the powerlifting club sent five members to the collegiate championships in Rhode Island. No one placed, but as Choi says, “We competed for the experience more than to win. We were proud.”

DROPPING OUT

Brian Chen ’17 ended his bid to run for the Flanover selectboard after its zoning board ruled that Sigma Alpha Epsilon brothers could reside in their house despite the fraternity being derecognized by the College in February.

LAYOFFS

The Geisel School of Medicine in April announced it would drop 30 employees from its payroll as part of a restructuring necessitated by an annual deficit of about $27 million.

A NEW WING

The Flood Museum, now closed for renovations, will showcase international contemporary art at a small gallery on Main Street in Flanover. Flood Downtown opens in September.

LOOK UP!

Thanks to the astronomy and physics department, approximately 200 stargazers used telescopes set up on the Green to view Mercury’s transit of the sun in early May.

IDOLIZED

Grace Carney ’17, musical director of the Rockapellas, won the Dartmouth Idol competition in April.

CAN YOU SAY EXPANSION?

In May Thayer School of Engineering received its largest gift ever: $25 million from Barry MacLean ’60, Th’61.

QUOTE/UNQUOTE

“It’s a dream come true.

I’m so excited to return to Dartmouth and continue the ski team’s long history of excellence.”

—new men’s Nordic ski team coach Brayton Osgood ’03
