IDOL WORSHIP

Brooke Bazarian ’20 of Portland, Maine, took top honors at the 10th annual Dartmouth Idol finals March 3. Comedian Rachel Dratch ’88 was on hand to emcee the event.

ATHLETE IN ACTION

Olympic runner Abbey D’Agostino ’14 spoke and took questions at a February meeting of the Dartmouth Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

FLAG DAY

The sustainability office auctioned off a Dartmouth flag that once flew over the Green. Bids opened at $50 and closed when it went to an unnamed alum for $158.

EXUBERANCE

Uber has finally arrived in the Upper Valley. Drivers for the transportation service have high hopes of attracting Dartmouth students.

LOCKER ROOM TALK

Locker rooms for both hockey teams were refurbished thanks to a grassroots fundraising effort by men’s coach Bob Gaudet ’81 and former women’s coach Mark Fludak, who together raised $500,000 for the project.

ANIMAL RIGHTS

Alpha Delta is seeking rerecognition from the College following its 2015 ban for its practice of branding members. N.H. Supreme Court Associate Justice James Bassett 78 recused himself from the case.

FOREVER GREEN

Dartmouth ranked 10th on the Green Universities Report issued by SaveOnEnergy. com, a Texas energy consulting firm.

SPRING FEVER?

The D reported that home baseball games draw the fewest number of fans among sports examined in its attendance report.

NO VACANCY

Approximately 56 leaveterm students, who remain in Flanover to work or do research but are not enrolled, were left without spring term housing due to high enrollment and the October Morton Flail fire.

OPEN YOUR PIE HOLE

Blueberry, apple or cherry? Those were the pie choices available to competitors in a late-January pie-eating contest held between house communities. Nate Grice ’16 of South Flouse finished first. Dartmouth Dining did the baking.

DOUBLE DOWN

Frank Guarini ’46 pledged $10 million to the College’s off-campus and foreign study programs, adding to his 2013 commitment of $10 million.

WHERE’S KEGGY?

Staffers at the humor magazine TheJacko confirm that Keggy the Keg, the unofficial mascot who hasn’t made any appearances lately, is ensconced in a secure, undisclosed location, nursing a damaged nose and uncertain about how College officials might react if he emerges.

The Evans Map Room induced a surge in visitors when it offered a U.S. topographical maps giveaway. Freebies will be available through spring term.
