Clubs & Groups

Many Dartmouth clubs and groups held spring outings and celebrated newly admitted students over the past couple of months.

The Dartmouth Club of Central Massachusetts organized a very successful admitted-students event this spring at a local restaurant in Worcester, Massachusetts. Dave Robinson ’95 reported details of the successful event. The club’s alumni warmly welcomed the region’s admits to the Dartmouth family, sharing stories ranging from a 50th reunion to the best sledding hill on the Second College Grant. It was also an opportunity to recognize club stalwart Merle Adelman ’80 and new energetic leader Dawn Ling ’12 for their service to the club during and beyond the interview season. The event included lively conversation, Dartmouth giveaways, and great food.

On April 14 the Dartmouth Club of Georgia hosted a welcome reception for Atlanta-area students accepted to the class of 2022. In an effort to get everyone involved, the event was apotluck, with the Dartmouth Club of Georgia rounding out the refreshments. Alexandra Barnett ’07 reported that, thanks to the effo rts of district enrollment director Windsor Adams ’00 and treasurer Olivia Samson ’16, the event was a huge success!

Howard Hodel ’75 shared pictures and news about the parents celebration held this spring by the Dartmouth Club of Hawaii. Twelve parents of current students, two alumni, and five current students attended. Everyone shared a delicious potluck dinner, helped to pack care packages of Hawaii snacks for Dartmouth students from Oahu, and enjoyed watching Passion for Snow.

The Dartmouth Club of the Midwest (DCMW) has held monthly book club meetings continuously for more than six years now, and continues to welcome new and regular members to this popular event. Margaret Vergeyle ’79, DCMW activities chair, reported that March’s book was Lab Girl by Hope Jahren and that it was greatly enjoyed by the group. Attendees at March’s book club meeting included Adam Garen ’01, Steve Smith ’80, Will Meland ’03, Suzanne Wall, Mike Wall ’80, Christi Strauss ’82, John Guerrette 10, Erika Schinler, Tanille Paniogue ’14, Margaret Vergeyle ’79, Margaret Schwantes, David Schwantes ’62, Garrett Bayrd ’68, Judy Furber, and Deb Zvosec. Deb was also the hostess and photographer for the lovely evening.

The Dartmouth Club of Cape Cod was busy with activities this spring as well. Todd Herrmann ’80, club president, reported that the club kicked off its luncheon speaker series on April 17 at the Old Yarmouth Inn. Jung-Ho Pak, the artistic director and conductor of the Cape Symphony and Conservatoiy, led a discussion about his vision for the orchestra and engaged alumni in a lively discussion around some new business models planned to enhance patron experience and develop a new audience. The luncheon speaker series is a regular event and May’s topic focuses on the intersection ofthe Cape Verdean community and Cape Cod. To celebrate spring a small but mighty contingent joined volunteers from the Center for Coastal Studies on Earth Day weekend for a cleanup of Herring Cove Beach in Provincetown.

Finally, a note from the Palm Springs, California, area. Paula Sinclair ’70 is hoping to organize an Ivy League-Seven Sisters event in the Palm Springs area during the winter season. She is currently searching for others interested in participating. If you would like to join, please contact Paula at paulasinclair424@hotmail.com.

Please send me brief updates about the great events that your club, association, or affiliated group has organized! Newsletters and other email updates are also welcomed.
