New Trustees Named
Four alumni joined the 26-member board in July. They are James Frank ’65, executive chair of Wheels Inc.; Daniel Black ’82, a managing partner at Wicks Group; actress Connie Britton ’89; and Hilary Tompkins ’90, former solicitor for the U.S. Department of the Interior. They replace Gregg Engles 79, Bill Burgess ’81, Gail Boudreaux ’82, and Jim Coulter ’82.

Popular government professor Brendan Nyhan is back at Dartmouth after departing last year for the University of Michigan. “My wife, Mary, and I decided that Dartmouth and Hanover are the best fit for our family both professionally and personally,” Nyhan told The Dartmouth. “We missed our wonderful faculty and staff colleagues and the amazing Dartmouth students.”
Coaches Report
The women’s lacrosse team has a new coach. Alex Frank, an assistant coach at the University of Colorado, takes over as the fifth head coach in program history. She replaces Danielle Spencer, who is now at Stanford....Alex Kirk, coach of the women’s golf team, was named Ivy League Coach of the Year after leading the Big Green to its best Ivy finish ever—second place. “I am honored to be recognized by my peers, but the players have earned the award with me,” he said.
Final Class
Eleven professors have retired, including Margaret Barrow, history; Joseph BelBruno, chemistry; Raul Bueno, Spanish and Portuguese; Robert Ditchfield, chemistry; Bill Fischel, economics; Deborah Garretson, Russian; Louise Hamlin, studio art; Howard Hughes, psychological and brain sciences; Peter Jacobi, chemistry; Richard Kremer, history; and John Scott, economics.
Dean Appointed
Kathryn Lively has been named dean of the College. She started July 1 with plans to strengthen the house communities and “help create a campus culture that will facilitate the development of humans.”
