John Bash ’67, president of the Dartmouth Club of Sarasota and Manatee, Florida, reported that on February 18 William Kamkwamba ’14 talked to the club about its choice of his book, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, as its One Book/One Community selection for 2022. In addition, Andrea Kormann Lowe ’77, visiting from London, spoke about her work with the Our Moon Education organization, which supports Zambian students. With the recently announced Dartmouth needblind admissions policy for international students, she will work to encourage applications from outstanding African students to the College. Finally, Mike Meehan ’72 talked to the club about an essay contest he has sponsored for Dartmouth students about the U.S. Constitution.
Maren Christensen ’83 wrote in to share that the Dartmouth Club of San Diego recently held a group activity outdoors. Neil Tarzy ’76 and Stuart Yee ’03 planned a hike through Annie’s Canyon in Solana Beach. Annie’s Canyon has slot canyons to explore. Eight alumni ranging from the class of’72 to the class of T5 participated. A local high school junior whose father went to Dartmouth and whose sister is at Dartmouth now also attended. In all, about 16 hikers attended and a great time was had by all. The club will be planning another hike soon!
