Dr. John Alfred Hayes died March 21 in Somersworth, N. H., where he had been in practice for many years. He was born in Berwick, Me., March 27, 1839. Dr. Hayes had an honorable Civil War record, having been commissioned assistant surgeon of the Eleventh New Hampshire Volunteers, August 26, 1862, and mustered out as surgeon of the same regiment June 4, 1865, He particitprf in all the battles in which his regiment was engaged, and was for some time on deteached Service in various hospitals connected Ninth Army Corps. March 13, 1865, he was brevetted lieutenant-colonel of United States Volunteers, for faithful and meritorious services.
