Seen on bumper sticker: “The best things in life are not things.” Health and education. Family and friends. Experiences and memories. And where do all these best things come together in one place, at one time? You guessed it: at our top-tier class of 1979 reunion starting June 18. Although this celebration is only weeks away, you can still sign up.
Dorothy Bullock-Fernandes writes, “No, I can’t make it. I have not made it to one yet. Sorry, but I only recognize four names of those coming. Hope you all have a wonderful time.”
Know this: Our reunion is as much about making new friends as it is reconnecting with old ones.
And with the lives that we’ve led over these past three decades, each of us is more interesting than we were on June 10, 1979.
So which classmates have already said that they would be coming to reunion? Here is a sampling.
Colleen Sullivan Bartlett will attend. She writes, “I missed the 25th reunion so I don’t want to miss this one, too.” Carolyn Greene writes, “I’ll try to be there.” Elizabeth Procter- Gray says that she’s planning on being there. Lisa Saunders writes that she might attend for the “first time ever.” We’ll look forward to welcoming you back, Lisa.
Rueben Stokes writes, “I’m looking forward to seeing you all there.” Peter Robinson adds, “I will try my darndest” to attend.
Returnees to the Shire (of New Hamp) include Dave Stone, Peter Rockefeller, John Root (maybe), Joe Asch, Puddie Hauge Sword, Da’aga Hill Bowman, Julie Hunter, Fawn Wilderson-Legos, Nancy Wilder and Jim Eden.
Work with me here.
Members of the popular Society of John will also be attending: John Bosco, John Currier, John Dolan, John Moragne (“Four of us Moragnes will be there”), John Orloff, John Saer and John Snyder.
The Ken Club converges from all corners of the country: Ken Beer, Ken Winber (“I’ll be there with my wife and son”) and Kent Mathewson. Once in Hanover they’ll see Laurie Laidlaw Roulston, Laurie Rosenfeld and Libby Roberts.
A minimum of three Marks might meet in a melding of minds: Mark Connolly, Mark Schneider and Mark Tomalonis. Meanwhile, Michael Metcalf, Michael Wilkinson (“I’ve missed the last couple of reunions”) or Michelle Kane O’Donnell may meet Mich Soga at a moderated morning meeting.
People probably can profit from particularly playful palaver with Peter Greulich, Phil Coffin and Phil Odence. Writes Phil (Odence): “Trips to Hanover are always a sip from Ponce de Leon’s fabled fountain and never more so than during reunions. Through each weathered visage shines a smile of youth, those halcyon Hanover days reemerge. Stand on the Green some late spring night with mind affixed on the lighted bell tower. The only differences between then and now are a few accumulated memories. Let yourself go and you can, if only for an instant, make it 1979.”
Phil is organizing a morning campus funrun. “We’ll all set out around Occom Pond. Pick your distance from routes ranging from one to three-plus miles. No fancy shirts, medals, stopwatches. Just some fresh air and fun.” At the other end of the athletic spectrum Donna Smyers will be attending. On Saturday morning she’ll be “running up Mount Washington.”
Rich Pender, Rick Leonardi, Rick Magnuson, Sue Astolfi Mack and Sue Goodman wrote that they’ll attend. And following their Tom-Tom GPS units we’ll see Tom Ewing, Tom Hull, Tom Mechlin (maybe) and Tom Tomai. And many more friends: past, current and future.
