Dr Orlando Wood Sherwin died April 17 at his home in Woodstock, Vt, after an illness of nearly a year from a complication of diseases. He was born in Woodstock, October 30, 1837, his parents being Calvin S. and Angeline (Wood) Sherwin. After, graduation he began practice in Reading, Vt, returning to his native town in 1869. Several years since he gave up active practice, and for the past year and a half had been nearly blind. He was a member of the Vermont State Medical Society, of which he was president in 1880, and of the American Medical Association.' In 1885-6 he was surgeon-general of the state, and had been a pension examiner for twenty years. He was the author of numerous medical papers, and was especially interested in microscopy, it being claimed that he was the first in the state to demonstrate the tuberculosis bacillus. Dr. Sherwin was connected with various Masonic bodies, including the Windsor Lodge of Perfection. October 1, 1866, he was married to Mary A. Forbush of Reading, who died December 1, 1886.
