In the October issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE we reported the death of Mrs.Charles W. Bowker Jr. in July of 1980. In January of 1981 we received an apparently belated change-of-address notice for her from the Alumni Records Office, which, through an oversight, we listed in the March issue of the MAGAZINE. We deeply regret this discrepancy and any confusion it may have caused.
For the month of May, birthday cakes are in order for these class members, with the following requisite number of candles: Carl Hope, 94; Walt Gibson, 91; Clarence Holden, 93; and True Dudley, 93.
In response to the class letter sent to all members and widows under date of March 10 regarding our 70th reunion in June, we received replies from four widows.
From California, Cora (Mrs. Ernest E.)Morrill wrote, "I ache to be with you for the 70th reunion and wish for each of you a happy time of reminiscing. At 87 I am well, enjoying friends and traveling to Illinois each year to be with my son and family. Some church activities bring special refreshment. Hour-long walks constitute my exercise, but I also have the garden and trees to care for as a part of my home. Again, dear friends of 1911, I wish an unforgettable reunion for you and all who share the time with you." She enclosed a snapshot of herself that reflects the extent to which good health and an active life serve to offset advancing years.
Ramah (Mrs. Raymond H.) Nead wrote that the years and a heart condition prevented her from attending the 70th. But she added, "May all who make the reunion enjoy a perfect three days."
Marjorie (Mrs. Hubert S.) Pierce stated that there was no chance that she would be able to attend. However, she wished that she could, as she remembers one special one at the Mountain View a long time ago.
Dorothy (Mrs. Willard M.) Gooding indicated her desire to attend, provided she can secure suitable accommodations to conform to her use of a wheelchair.
Outside of the above, no further information has been received on the status of our 70th, beyond that reported in the April issue of the MAGAZINE. At that time it appeared that a group of eight to ten 1911 members might attend. As this is the last issue before the event takes place in June, may I express my hope to join with a representative gathering of 1911 participants in making the 70th a memorable reunion.
