CLASS OF 1889

At a recent celebration in New York city of the unveiling of the statue of the South American liberator, Simon Bolivar, presented to that city by the government of Venezuela, John Barrett was requested by the Venezuelan government and by President Harding to take charge of the reception of the special mission of Venezuela, headed by the minister of foreign relations of that country, and to arrange for the visit of President Harding to participate in the exercises which took place on April 19 in Central Park. In recognition of his services, the government of Venezuela has bestowed upon Mr. Barrett the exclusive and unique decoration of the "Order of the Liberator," and has invited him to come to Venezuela next winter as the special guest of the government and people of that country.
