DR. WALTER S. ADAMS '98 BECOMES OBSERVATORY HEAD

Dr. Walter Sidney Adams '98, who has had long and successful experience as Assistant Director of the Mount Wilson Observatory, Pasadena, California, became on last July 1 Director of the Observatory, in charge of operations, when Dr. George Ellery Hale, former director, was made honorary director in response to his request to the Carnegie Institution of Washington, for a material reduction of his responsibilities. Dr Hale has long suffered ill health which greatly reduced his working capacity and repeatedly threatened the necessity of his complete retirement. Dr. Adams has served as acting director of the observatory during Dr. Hale's absences.
