Dartmouth sons in Southern California celebrated "Dartmouth Night" on November 2nd with a turnout of 39 men, and with a tribute from the heart to the memory of "Spuddy" Pishon '10, and to all the men of the College for whom Memorial Field was being dedicated at Hanover coincident with "Dartmouth Night."
The especial tribute to Pishon was voiced as a testimony to J.S. Pishon '10 honorary, "Spuddy's" father, that his son still lived, and would live always in the thoughts of the Dartmouth men who had known him and known of him. Mr. Pishon is one of the active members of the Southern California alumni group. He was greatly moved by the expression of affection for "Spuddy."
C.G. Milham '06, secretary of. the Southern California Association, reminded the men at the meeting of the great assemblage at Hanover, and of the dedication of Memorial Field. He asked that silent toast be drunk to the men in whose honor Memorial Field was built, and it was downed with all standing.
"Wherever Dartmouth men gather at any time and especially tonight," he said, "we keep alive the old traditions and the old memories. And we think at this particular time more than ever, of those who have passed on. In particular, we must think of one man whom we all loved, who made so notable a record while he was in college, and who gave his life in the World War, after doing his part with the same cheerful spirit that always marked him. We all loved him and we are more than fortunate in having his father, an honorary member of his son's class, with us tonight.
"Just as we think of 'Spuddy,' so will we always think of all the other men we knew in the old college days. There never can be any doubt about the reason why college men cling so tenaciously to the recollections of their college days. To hold fast to recollections of college is only holding fast to something that makes every one of us always the better. Here's to 'Spuddy' Pishon."
Congratulations on the Harvard victory of October 27th were voiced in brief talks by Warren Currier 'OB and by E. W. Hiestand '10. A telegram was sent by those present to Jesse Hawley and the football team, on the prospective Cornell game.
