DARTMOUTH MEN IN THE ORIENT

William M. Hatch '86, secretary of his class, frequently makes a business trip to the Orient and one of his activities has always been to see as many Dartmouth men as possible. He has just returned from his travels and has sent in a lot of valuable information concerning Dartmouth men in the Far East. Mr. Hatch makes the following report on Dartmouth men he has seen or heard about:

A.S. Crossfield, non-graduate, Medical School, 1879, at present a lawyer in Manila in the firm of Crossfield & O'Brien; formerly Judge in Philippine Supreme Court.

Dr. Erasmus A. Pond, '90, a physician in Cebu, Philippine Islands.

Walter A. Foss '99, Manager of Strachan & MacMurray, makers of sugar machinery, Iloilo, Philippine Islands.

Michael H. O'Malley '03, President of the Philippine Trust Company and the Fidelity and Surety Company, both of Manila, Philippine Islands.

W.D. Whittemore '04, recently with the International Banking Corporation at Yokohama, Japan, but at present manager of the local branch of the same corporation in Manila.

E.C. Richardson '05, with the China Electric Company at Pekin, China.

Willis D. Howe '06, with the International Banking Corporation, formerly at Shanghai, China, later at Harbin.

Harold R. Foss '09, with the United States Consular Service at Constantinople, Turkey; until May, 1922 in the same service at Calcutta, India.

W.K. LeCount '14, with the International Banking Corporation, successively in London, Shanghai, Singapore, and Calcutta.

Lester K. Little '14, in charge of Chinese Maritime Customs, Amoy, China; recently in the same work in Shanghai.

R.L. Durgin '15, with the Y.M.C.A., at Dairen, Manchuria; until recently in a similar position at Yokahera, Japan.

M.G. Howland '15, assistant secretary-treasurer of the Shanghai and Canton Silk Corporation at Shanghai.

C.F. Durgin '16, with the International Banking Corporation at Manila; formerly with the same corporation at Yokohama, Japan.

R.F. Evans '16, president Shanghai and Canton Silk Corporation at Shanghai, exporters of raw silks.

William A. Hale '16, son of Arthur H. Hale '86, with the Bank of Asia at Tientsin; recently in a similar position at Shanghai.

Hobart W. Marble '16, with the Sternburg Storage and Truck Company at Shanghai.

K.W. Holden '17, with the Standard Oil Company at Pekin, China.

Charles W. Biddle '19, with the International Banking Corporation,at Yokohama, Japan.

N.L. Hodgkins '19, son of Dr. Lewis Hodgkins '85, with the Internationa! Banking Corporation at Hong Kong and recently transferred to the Canton branch.

There has been one death among the Dartmouth men in the Far East in recent years. Paul E. Dailey '15, with the Standard Oil Company at Changsha, China, died in the fall of 1921 of pneumonia following influenza.
