We had thirty-eight men out to our observance of Dartmouth Night on Friday evening, October 10. We failed to learn until too late that Dartmouth Night was to be celebrated on October 3, but at least we were in spirit with the College on the 10th, even though a week late.

Our meeting was held at the University Club, the committee in charge consisting of V. R. Salinger '00, E. W. Hiestand '10, and J. Leland Richardson 'OB. Dr. George P Laton '06, president of the Association, was toastmaster, and the secretary, C. G. Milham '06, read a portion of President Hopkins' address delivered at the opening of the college year.

Three of those present traveled many miles m order to be at the celebration of Dartmouth Night. They were Warren Currier '08, Sydney Ickes '12, and Royal Thayer '01. Currier came from the heart of the Imperial Valley at Brawley, while Ickes and Thayer came from the Coachello Valley, the former from Indio and the latter from Thermal. The trip to Los Angeles from the homes of all three of these requires more than five hours, either by train or automobile, so it can be appreciated how much their loyal attendance at the Dartmouth gatherings in Los Angeles means.

Others present Friday night, besides those already named, included Ahlswede '12, Abbott 99, Dr. H. G. Brainerd '74, Brock '88, Eugene D. Burbank '91, Hartley Caldwell '22, R K Charles '20, Dan Coakley '14, George Eiseman 14, Webster B. Evans '08, Roland Foss 19, J. F. Glynn '09, Donald R. Graves '19, E. A. Maling '19, Richard B. Merrill 'OB James J. Norton '08, Charles W. Remele '12, J. Leland Richardson '08, B. W. Robie '12,' H. M. Sanborn '02, Lynn F. Seiler '18, E. J. S hattuck 10, Dr. Karl R. Sleeper '00M, Harold F. Whitcomb '11, E. R. Dewey '17, Ralph M. Kilpatrick '19, Ed Martin '09, Howard Miles IS, Wallace Wright '19, and George Stoddard 10.

(Second Letter)

Members' of the Southern California Alumni Association were among those who enjoyed practically all the thrills of the Yale and Harvard games, even though some 3000 miles This was because of a special Western Union telegraphic report, giving play-by-play service, that was arranged for through the cooperation of the University Club of Los Angeles, a luncheon being had at the University Club for the Dartmouth men jointly with the Yale men on October 18, and jointly with the Harvard men in Los Angeles on October 25. Because of the difference in time the game coincided very well with the luncheon hour.

Thirty-one men turned out to hear the reports of the Yale game, and thirty-eight came out for the Harvard session. Considerable publicity was obtained in the Los Angeles newspapers regarding the .play-by-play service in advance of the two games, and this re-sulted in bringing out several new members for the Southern California Alumni Association, recent arrivals in Southern California. These included R. C. Laing '12, Wesley T Engelhorn '14, J. P. Hatch '04, Charles H. Wood '17, and Albert Shields, Jr. '17.

In addition to those named, the attendance for the Yale-Dartmouth luncheon included David E. Bradley '03, Dr. H. G. Brainerd '74 Hartley Caldwell '22, R. K. Charles '20, Clark H. Edwards 11, Webster B. Evans '08, Roland Foss '19, J. F. Glynn '09, Charles C. Hitchcock '16, E. W. Hiestand '10, Donald R Graves '19, Ralph M. Kilpatrick '19, Dr. George P. Laton '06, E. D. Martin '09, E. A Maling '19, C. G. Milham '06, James j. Norton '08, Charles W. Remele '12, J. Leland Richardson 'OB, V. R. Salinger '00, Ed Seward '20, Edmund J. Shattuck '10, Dr. Karl R. Sleeper 'OOM, Ted Swartzbaugh '22, Royal B. Thayer '01, and Wallace Wright '19.

Several of the fellows were called out of town just prior to the Harvard game, but a number of fellows who had not been able to get out the week previous came in to take their places. These included Dan Coakley '14, W. P. Hodgkins '99, A. L. Howell 16, Spencer A. Howell '14, R. L. Bennett '13, H. C. Richardson 'IS, Robert S. Shackford '11, George W. Shaw '87, and George C. Stoddard '18.

"Eck" Hiestand was the blackboard artist who recorded the plays as read by Ed Martin. They were voted a very good team.

The Dartmouth men made the two luncheons distinctive affairs through some really excellent singing and cheering. There were many other colleges represented in the University Club dining room while the football reports were being received, and they voiced much praise on the good singing of the Dartmouth fellows, and on the "splendid Dartmouth songs." Aside from the enjoyment that came through hearing the play-by-play reports, and having a clear idea of all that was happening in the Yale Bowl and in the Harvard Stadium, the Dartmouth members of the Southern California Association congratulated themselves on the attendance centered on the old college through these two luncheon gatherings.
