Starting on its season's schedule the Dartmouth fencing team vanquished the swordsmen of Norwich University by a 11 to 3 score at Hanover, February 13. The Hanover team showed unusual proficiency with the foils, winning all of the nine bouts in this event. The sabre event was halved, each team winning two bouts, and Norwich won the epee bout. Summary: Foils—Hawley (D) defeated Orr (N.U.), 5-1, Hilton (N.U.), 5-2; Griffin (D) defeated Hilton (N.U.), 5-3, Bassett (N.U.), 5-4, Orr (N.U.), 5-1. Sabres—Town send (D) defeated Barrett (N.U.), 5-3; Mather (D), substituting for Misch (D), defeated Bassett (N.U.), 5-3; Handy (N.U.) defeated Misch (D), 5-4, Townsend (D"), 5-4. Epee—Handy (N.U.) defeated Hawley (D). Director—Professor Hull (Dartmouth).

In New York the Dartmouth swordsmen were unable to cope with Columbia s parry and fhrust experts and lost to the Morningside Heights team by a score of 12 to 2. Columbia fencers won all nine foils matches. Dartmouth's only victories were gained by Townsend and Misch in the sabre bouts.
