ANNUAL MEETING OF THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

The annual meeting of the Association of Alumni of Dartmouth College was called to order in Room 103, Dartmouth Hall, at two o'clock, President Matt B. Jones '94 in the chair.

After prayer had been offered by Rev. Walter H. Rollins '94 the minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

The secretary then reported on the state of the ballot for alumni trustee, announcing the nomination of Clarence B. Little '81 and Morton C. Tuttle '97.

The treasurer's report was presented by Perley R. Bugbee '9O showing a balance on hand of $503.95 with no .disbursements.

It was Voied: That the report be accepted and placed on file.

The president then presented Samuel L. Powers '74 who spoke in behalf of the semi-centennial class presenting each man individually to the meeting. There -were present from this class twenty-two out of thirty-one living.

The president also referred to the seven members of the class of '64 and one member from the class of '59 who were present at the meeting.

In behalf of the committee appointed at the last meeting of the Association to investigate the nomination of alumni trustees and members of the Alumni Council, John K. Lord '68 made the report in the absence of Judge Hough, chairman. This report was printed in full in the June number of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE. Following the reading of the report it was Voted: That the report be received.

Mr. Lord then read the committee recommendations relative to the amendment of the constitution of the Alumni Association, these recommendations covering section 4 of article IV and sections 1 to 6 inclusive of article V, the amendments proposed superseding the sections named. It was then moved :and Voted: That the recommendations of the committee covering the amendments to the constitution of the Alumni Association be and hereby are adopted. The -amendments thus adopted are as follows:

Article IV.

4. The secretary shall keep all records and attend to the correspondence of the Association. Any alumnus of not less than three years' standing shall be entitled to vote for the nomination of any trustee or the election of any councilor. The secretary shall open, count and record all votes, and shall publish the result of the election for councilors on the day of the annual meeting, and certify the record in respect of trustees to the Board of Trustees before their meeting at Commencement.

Article V.

1. Alumni trustees shall serve for a term of five years from the first Monday following Commencement, and at the end of such term the incumbent shall resign his trusteeship except that vacancies occurring within such term shall be filled for the balance of the term only.

2. No trustee shall begin his term of service until he shall have indicated in writing to the secretary of the Association his acceptance of the provisions of this constitution, including that part thereof relating to his term of office, and his resignation at the conclusion thereof.

3. No alumni trustee shall serve for more than two consecutive terms of five years each.

4. Alumni trustees shall be nominated by the Council of the Alumni of Dartmouth College, such nomination being made upon notification from the secretary of this Association that a vacancy will arise on the Monday after the next following Commencement. Said secretary shall also give notice, not less than four months before Commencement, and by publication in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, that the Council will nominate alumni trustee or trustees to take office on the first Monday after Commencement.

Within two months after such publication in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE ' any one hundred alumni qualified to vote for the Council of -umni may file with the said secretary a petition over their own signatures for the nomination of a qualified alumnus for the ce of alumni trustee. Said secretary shall soon as practicable after expiry of the Period for nomination by petition send to each alumnus qualified to vote an official ballot containing the name of the alumnus nominated by the Council for the office of trustee and the name or names of candidates nominated by petition as aforesaid. No voting by proxy shall be allowed in voting for alumni trustees, and the polls shall close on the June 10th before Commencement.

If no candidates are nominated by petition as, above set forth, no voting for trustee shall take place, and the alumnus nominated by the Council shall be the candidate of the alumni for the office of trustee.

5. Should two or more vacancies exist in the alumni trusteeships at the same time, specific nominations must be made by the Council for each vacancy.

6. If vacancies occur in the office of alumni trustee otherwise than by the expiration of a stated term of five years, the Council shall be forthwith informed, and are empowered to make nominations for the vacancy or vacancies for the unexpired term or terms at any regular meeting of the Council or any special meeting thereof called by a majority of the Executive Committee of the Council.

It was moved and Voted: That the chair appoint a committee of three to present amendments to the constitution of the Alumni Council at the next annual meeting of the Associaton of Alumni.

Pursuant to this motion the chair appointed John K. Lord '69, John Abbott '91, and Lafayette R. Chamberlin '05.

The Nominating Committee was then called upon for its report and presented the following nominations for the year 1924-25:

President, Charles W. Pollard '95; vicepresidents, Walter H. Lillard '05, Joseph W. Worthen '09; secretary, Eugene F. Clark '01; statistical secretary, John M. Comstock '77; treasurer, Perley R. Bugbee '90; executive committee, Philip S. Marden '94, Warren F. Gregory *88, Byron E. Eldred '96, Nathaniel Leverone '06, Robert B. Keeler '11, Paul W. Loudon '14, Carl E. Newton '20.

Chamberlin '05. It was Voted: That the secretary cast one ballot for the nominations as presented by the Nominating Committee. It was moved and Voted: That the secretary send to Dr. William J. Tucker the cordial expression of esteem and good wishes of the alumni assembled. The meeting then adjourned.
