Twenty-two pitchers and nine catchers who reported at the first baseball meeting of the year, will give Coach Tesreau plenty of promising material as battery candidates.
The infield and outfield candidates reported March 1, when the basketball floor was removed from the cage.
Veterans of last year's squad who reported for battery practice were Captain Bjorkman, Comerford, Dunlevy, Edwards and Stevens. All these men are seniors of two years' varsity experience and they will furnish a good nucleus for this years' twirling staff. Bjorkman has played center field for two seasons, but took his turn on the mound last season in several minor games.
From early prospects the catching department will be weakened considerably by the loss of F. C. Shaneman '24 and J. W. Seavey '24 by graduation. Stevens, who has been seriously ill for the past two months, reported, but he will be handicapped for a while in early practice. Stevens earned his letter last year and is the only catcher of varsity experience on hand. Picken, who was on the varsity basketball team, caught on last year's freshman nine, and will report for the receiving position in a few days.
The battery candidates who reported were: Pitchers: 1925—Bjorkman, Comerford, Dunlevy, Edwards, Fleet, Walker; 1926—Cox, Dunn, Forrest, Gibson, Scott, Sharp, Truesdale, Woods; 1927—Camph, Carver, Duplin, Haynes, Herwitz, Macken, Parker, Pierson.
Catchers: 1925—Brown, Stevens, Taylor; 1926—Howland, Parker; 1927 Elliott, Kinney, Michelini, Tracy.
The schedule of the southern trip which will be taken during the spring vacations, is as follows: March 28—Virginia at Charlottesburg. March 30-y51—Oglethorpe at Atlanta. April 1-2—Univ. of Georgia at Atlanta. April 3-4—Georgia Tech at Atlanta. April 6—N; Y. U. at New York City.
