Interest in the activities of the rifle team was given a decided impetus by the opening on March 6 of a new rifle range constructed under the Memorial Field stands by the Athletic Council at a cost of $1000. It is completely modern in every detail of its equipment. Butts at 50, 60 and 75 feet are electrically lighted and the target carriers, furnished by the government, are controlled from the firing point. The building itself, which contains a club room in addition to the shooting room, is heated by an up-to-date oil heater.
Apparently the members of the rifle team were much pleased with their new home for, although they had dropped their three earlier matches, on the opening night they defeated four other local teams. In the "house warming" even teams were entered by the faculty, the freshmen, the Young Men's Club of Hanover, and the local organized reserves.
Gratitude was further shown by the varsity riflemen on the following Saturday when they boosted their total score above 1800 for the first time this year and defeated Williams 1812-1542.
