Now as we approach conclusion Of our yearly council meeting It is well to give expression To the sentiments engendered By the talking and the feasting. With what interest we've listened To the words of peace and friendship Brought to us by the great Sachem Of the mighty Massachusetts, How much pleasure we have taken, Only by our pride exceeded,

In the reading of his poem By the Laureate McDuffee! How much profit we have gathered From the clear cut exposition Of the problems of the college, Of its policy and purpose And the forces that control them, Made by Chieftain Lewis Parkhurst And Our Sachem Ernest Hopkins. It is well that to the message Which our chiefs have brought unto us From the homeland far to northward, Whence we went forth to our hunting. Gracious answer should be given To express our great affection For the men who daily serve her And our loyal love for Dartmouth. Therefore I will call on Pattee Of the tribe of eight and eighty, Who a year since at Chicago When was held our greatest Pow Wow Stirred the hearts of all the warriors, Roused them by his inspiration, To new loyalty for Dartmouth Pattee! mighty man of letters, One of Dartmouth's greatest teachers, You the loyal missionary Who the light has borne to westward And amongst the Pennsylvanians, Of our enemies most dreaded, Mongst the Quakers and the Dutchmen, Long have labored to instruct them In the art of picture writing, Perfectly you understood us How in modesty and candor Much embarrassment 'twould cause us. Of ourselves to make oration, Of our loyalty to boast of; Loyally you met our summons Gratefully we thank you for it. Give our love interpretation. And our Potlatch, benediction.
