The annual ice encounter with the Crimson, in the Boston Arena on February 21, proved fully as colorful as usual.
Harvard succeeded in chasing the jinx which has made its defeat at the" hands of the Green an annual affair but required the aid of a Dartmouth man to accomplish the feat. This accidental tally from the stick of little Johnny Manser, who was trying to clear a rebound from in front of his net, was the only score during the first two periods. Nevertheless both teams were playing fiercely and with an abandon which eventually proved the undoing of the Hanoverians who were sadly lacking in reserve of power. Furious body-checking caused many spills and only spectacular work by the goalies prevented real scoring.
Early in the third period, Hodder made a second tally for Harvard. Dartmouth's hopes, which had temporarily fallen, were revived a few minutes later when Captain Everett lifted the puck into the Crimson net at almost shoulder height. By this time the Harvard battle was being carried on by fresh replacement men of almost varsity calibre while Dartmouth's subs were few in number and of noticeable weakness.
Fate was not willing to let Johnny Manser off with the disappointment of scoring the other team's winning goal but dealt him a nasty injury in the final period. His nose collided with a flying hockey stick, and surgical attention was necessary. After he left the game his teammates tried valiantly to tally again. They were able to outskate their opponents but from sheer exhaustion lacked the punch to tie the score.
As announced in last month's MAGAZINE the remainder of the hockey schedule had to be cancelled because of unfavorable weather.
