The American Council on Education has received from the French Department of Education and the French Universities, in appreciation of the scholarships offered to French students in America, an offer of scholarships and fellowships in French universities and the Ecole Normale Superieure de Sevres. These scholarships are open, with the exception noted below, to both men and women, American born, under 30 years of age, graduates of a college or university approved by the American Council on Education, and possessed of a speaking knowledge of French.
The University of Bordeaux offers four scholarships to American students which include board, lodging and tuition. It also offers free tuition to eight other American students. The subjects recommended for study are Political Science and Law, History and Geography, Tropical Diseases, French Language and Literature.
The University of Lyons offers four scholarships covering, tuition, board and lodging (Maison des Etudiants and Maison des Etudiantes).
The University of Nancy offers two scholarships open to men only. (1) 5000 francs with free tuition for research work in Physics. (2) The Edouard de Billy memorial fellowship of 4000 francs with free tuition at the "Ecole Superieure de Metallurgie at des Mines." Detailed information will be forwarded on request.
The University of Strasbourg offers one scholarship of 2000 francs with free tuition and lodging.
The University of Toulouse offers four scholarships (two to women and two to men) covering tuition, board and lodging, and eight scholarships carrying free tuition. American students will be especially inter- ested in the following institutes at the Uni- versity: (1) Chemistry; (2) Electrical En- gineering; (3) Agriculture; (4) Hydrology; (5) Provengal and Romance Philology; (6) French studies.

The following credentials are necessary an.d should be sent to Miss Florence A. Angell, Institute of International Education, 2 West 45th St., New York City, not later than February 15:
1. Application blank, accompanied by a letter containing a detailed account of the applicant's training and aim in studying abroad.
2. Certified transcript of candidate's college record.
3. Birth certificate.
4 A small signed photograph.
5. Health certificate on form prescribed by the committee.
6. Testimonials from two professors with whom the applicant has studied, and from an official of the college as to the character, ability and promise of success of the candidate. Women candidates are asked to include among these a letter from the Dean of Women.
These testimonials and the health certificate should be sent directly to the Secretary of the Committee by the writers. They are considered as confidential, and will not be returned to the candidate.
