FLORIDA ALUMNI GROUP CLAIMS ALTITUDE RECORD
March, 1926

A claim for the highest average height of any group of Dartmouth men in the world is made in a letter from Leslie C. Merrell '18, resident in Florida. Any group of Dartmouth men wishing to contest this claim should send in their argument to the Alumni Magazine. Mr. Merrell writes from Sebring as follows:

"There are just three of us Dartmouth alumni here in this little city of 7,000. And our average height is 6'31. In fact, I must confess of being the 'shorty' although I am still 6'3. You see, the other two boys are celebrities, and that always keeps you from getting stunted.

"Witness, Eddie Edwards, the well-known basketball star, who graduated last year I believe, and is now making history for this section by starring as center for the Sebring B. B. Team. This team is so far unbeaten, has trimmed the fast Coral Gables quintet, and has attracted so much attention that it is booked to play the New York Celtics here in Sebring, February 9th. Eddie is also 'realestating.'

"And witness George Algar (I've forgotten his class, but it is a recent one) who won fame as a swimmer at college. He does his stunts in the clear waters of Lake Jackson now, sells 'Sebring dirt' and also plays a fine game on the Sebring B. B. Team at guard.

"Now, we, the Sebring Alumni, hereby challenge any alumni group of three or more anywhere in the world of Dartmouth men, that our average altitude is supreme! How about it?"
