JESS B. HAWLEY WILL RETURN TO COACH
June, 1926

Jesse B. Hawley will return this fall for the fourth year to act as head coach of the 1926 football team with "Jack" L. Cannell, assistant head coach, "Norm" W. Crisp, assistant coach in charge of the line and "Heinie" A. Sage, assistant coach in charge of the ends, according to the official announcement of the Athletic Council following their meeting May 8.

The freshman coaching staff has been enlarged to four with "Sid" C. Hazelton, head coach, assisted by C. W. Holbrook '20, ''Art" C. Smith, tackle on the 1925 championship team and "Dutch" Diehl, guard on the same team.

Along with the enlargement of the 1930 coaching staff the Athletic Council has made a decided change in the conducting of the recreational football, which will be run in immediate conjunction with the freshman team under direction of "Sid" Hazelton.

R. J. Delehanty, who has been director of athletics at Worcester Academy for eight years is to be assisted by J. P. "Brainy" Bower '21, former head coach of baseball and of hockey at Williams, in charge of the recreational football squad.

As a result of this change in handling the freshman football candidates, there will be no cuts made in the squad. The Athletic Council will encourage men to come out for football and, instead of making the usual cuts Coach Hazelton will assign men to the recreational team under the direction of Delehanty and Bowers.

Under this system any man may gain both the theoretical and practical knowledge of football. The most promising candidates will be picked to serve on the 1930 squad and those not selected, who will become members of the recreational teams, may at any time displace those on the freshman squad.
