The Outing Club made the most of the last days of real winter by sponsoring two trips to the summit of Mt. Washington. Both trips were successful in their assault of the peak and all participants reported an excellent outing in the mountains. Headquarters was maintained at the Appalachain Mountain Club cabins in Pinkham Notch and reports of the party were sent to the College radio club through the air from the amateur station maintained at the huts by hutmaster, Joe Dodge. One message came to the radio shack in top of Wilder directly but the other was picked up in Manchester and relayed to Hanover by telephone.
S. H. Jones '29 established a new skiing record when he wended his way up and down hill from Moose cabin to the campus in 59 minutes in competition with several other hikers. C. N. Proctor '28, captain of the Winter Sports Team w'as acclaimed Ski Champion of the College when he defeated all competitors in the five-mile ski run down Mt. Mooselauke. He was one of twelve skiers who braved the torturous turns and dizzy pitches in the misty and windy weather. J. D. Cuddeback '26 was the winner of Class "B," including all men not members of the Winter Sports team.
The freshman class ran riot in the interclass winter sports meet and topped the juniors, their nearest competitors, by 16 points. The final tabulation listed the classes: freshmen 30, Juniors 14, seniors 12, and sophomores 8 points. R. L. Billings '30 was high point scorer of the meet, winning one first and second for his class.
With; the close of the ski classes held under the sponsorship of the D. O. C., five students were awarded certificates of proficiency in all branches of the sport; R. C. Parshall '29, H. L. Birge '30, A. T. Boyce 30, W. H. Lillard '30 and H. N. Sanders '30.
