The bequest of Thomas P. Salter, which is estimated at over $200,000 will be put in the hands of the Trustees of Dartmouth College as soon as the estate of his sister, Annie M. Putnam who died recently, has been settled.
The exact amount of the bequest has not yet been received from the executors. According to the wish of Thomas P. Salter it will be used as the Trustees consider "most judicious in advancing the best interests of the institution." Thomas P. Salter, who died in 1907, willed the income of his estate to his sister dur- ing her lifetime. She was the widow of Rear Admiral Putnam, U.S.N., and lived in Portsmouth, N. H. In her will, she made charitable bequests to the sum of $46,000, including $10,000 for the Portsmouth Hospital. The remainder of the sum went to various charitable institutions and the Portsmouth Y.M.C.A. and Y.W.C.A.
