Twenty-four National Fraternities
FEBRUARY, 1928

The number of national fraternities on the Dartmouth campus will be increased to 24 early in the next semester by the granting of a charter by Alpha Sigma Phi to Sigma Alpha, which has been a local for the past three years. The local society was founded on the basis of scholarship and has maintained a large margin over other Dartmouth fraternities in this department or undergraduate activity.

Alpha Sigma Phi is a national fraternity of wide repute, founded at Yale College in 1845, and has expanded conservatively until its chapter roll includes 29 chapters from coast to coast. Sigma Alpha when formally initiated will form the 30th chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi.

The 29 chapters of Alpha Sigma Phi already established are, in order of founding: Yale, Harvard, Marietta, Ohio, Wesleyan, Ohio State, Illinois, Michigan, Cornell, Wisconsin, Columbia, Washington, California, Mass., A. C., Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Minnesota, Kentucky, Stanford, Penn State, lowa State, Chicago, Oregon, Oklahoma, lowa, Carnegie Tech., Middlebury, Syracuse, California.

Definite plans for the installation of the local chapter have not been drawn up as yet, but there will be no action taken until after Carnival.
