The following paragraph appeared in a New York paper recently: DR. McCARTY NAMED PHYSICAL EDUCATOR

Dr. John D. McCarty, teacher in charge of the department of hygiene at DeWitt Clinton High School, has been nominated by the Board of Superintendents for the post of physical education for the public school system. The position pays $8,500 a year and has been vacant since Nov. 1, when Dr. A. K. Aldinger resigned to become the head of a similar department at the University of Vermont. Dr. McCarty received his medical degree from Harvard in 1913. His teaching and training connections include Dartmouth, Columbia and New York University. The Board of Education is expected to approve the nomination at its meeting next week.

Fred Munkelt has recently been elected presi- dent of the Thayer Society of Engineers.

Mike Stearns' chest is sticking way out and he is in line for the congratulations of the elass. The reason is that on February 20, 1928 Annis became the mother of a boy.

Dr. F. G. Blake for his work in Internal Medicine and Dr. J. A. Detlefsen for his work in Genetics and Physiology are highly honored in the 4th edition of the American Men ofScience. Of the 13,500 names listed, 250 are chosen by their colleagues to receive the starred rank as indicating merit and eminence in their respective fields. 1908 thus contributes two out of a total of 5 Dartmouth graduates with starred rank.
