The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has just published "Catalog of Greek and Etruscan Vases 1. Early Vases, Preceding Athenian Black-Figured Ware" by Professor Arthur Fairbanks '86. This volume which represents a tremendous amount of scholarship and re- search on the part of the author, consists of 235 pages of text and 100 pages of plates. In the introduction the author states "Instead of a general introduction to the subject of Greek vase painting, which seems unnecessary, I have written a brief introduction to each class of vases described. It will be evident that these are introductions written primarily for the benefit of the beginning student, and in the hope that they will help him in the presence of the vases described in the catalog."
