The Round Table gave further evidence in February of its truly liberal attitude and tolerance by inviting to speak before the College J. Gresham Machen, Professor of New Testament Literature and Exegesis at Princeton Theological Seminary. Dr. Machen is a strong believer in adherence to supernatural Christianity or the "Reformed Faith," as he terms it. He has taken a vigorous defense of this position against the attacks which have come from naturalism or various forms of doctrinal indifferentism. He believes that the Christian religion is true and that it is capable of intellectual defense.

When the time for questions came after the formal lecture, considerable interest was shown in Dr. Machen's thesis. Professor W. K. Wright of the Philosophy Department asked Dr. Machen if any non-Christian historians of the Bible believed in the divinity of Christ and Samuel L. Joshi, Professor of Comparative Religion, questioned him concerning the validity of Hindu religions. Professor Wilbur M. Urban of the Philosophy Department, while in general agreeing with the speaker's opposition to naturalism in religion, asked about the lack of authority in Dr. Machen's interpretation of Christianity. Dr. Machen, incidentally, made a plea for a revival of evangelical religion in America.
